But where does the name come from?
According to local oral tradition, the tectonic formation of the Dhroner hill is the origin. Situated within the VDP.GROSSE LAGE DHRONER HOFBERG, the Sengerei lies like a basin in the front, warmer part of the Hofberg. Its south-southwest orientation and windy hillside position may have led to the name, derived from the word "versengen" (to scorch). In summer, the air can become almost burning hot, so that undergrowth beneath the vines struggles to survive on the slate soils.
